A Country Charm RV Park

Our family is on our full-time RV adventure. Just a few days into our journey we ran into some trouble. Then we ran into some very kind people. Hikers would call them trail angels, I don’t know what full-time RVers call them.

We had not planned to stay the night in Hamilton, MO. We had gotten a late start in St. Louis after seeing a man get hit by a car, so we were hoping to make some good time. We had our next gas stop planned, but while our gas gauge was fine with waiting for that stop our bladders could wait not more.

So we pull off the interstate and into a parking lot of a Mexican restaurant. We all bail out and grab some snacks out of the fridge while we wait for our turn at the bathroom in the camper. (Its nice to take your own bathroom on road trips.)

Brad was first man in and first man out. I am always the last as I can round up the kids back to the car. When I got back to the car he was walking around with a battery from the camper and had a look of a determined Brad.  Apparently our car wouldn’t start. And with a fully charged battery we were looking at a problem with a starter. A dead battery would have been the easiest thing to fix. A Country Charm RV park in Hamilton Missouri

So now we have a couple of problems on our hands. It is later in the day, so there are no maintenance garages open at least not in the smaller town we were in.

We have to figure out how to get our car towed somewhere that can work on the car. We have to get the camper towed somewhere. And we need a place to stay for the night… and a way to get there.

Seems the best idea is to find a campground near us and have the tow company tow it there… and hopefully give us a ride.

Brad found an RV park that was only a mile down the road… with only one opening. Perfect… we can walk to it. We just have to get it there.

But the owner, Jerry wanted to help. He didn’t just have an open spot for us. He would come get our RV and Me and the kids.

Jerry pulled up in his truck and it was like the heavens had opened and we were getting some relief. Being able to get the kids somewhere safe for the night was a huge deal. We had almost decided we may have to sleep in the camper at the garage. (Not ideal, but totally doable.)

While Brad sat with the car waiting for the tow truck, Jerry took us to A Country Charm RV Park. He didn’t just tow the trailer, but helped me to set it up and make sure that we were comfortable and offered to take us to the store if we needed groceries.

The RV park was amazing. Jerry clearly takes  a lot of pride in his park.

There were only very nice RVs parked here. Each pad had full hook ups, as well as a picnic table.

Pets are welcome (on a leash of course).

The entire park is pretty new, so of course the bath house is new and VERY clean. There was a washer and dryer available. And Jerry has can get you change if you are low on quarters. A Country Charm RV park in Hamilton Missouri

When we got all set up Brad was still waiting with the car, so we put some laundry in the wash. On our walk to/from the laundry room we met some neighbors. I told them of the amazing kindness of Jerry. I was delighted to share our story of our car trouble so that everyone in the park could know the character or the man running the place. The neighbors were glad Jerry was there to help us and were all absolutely happy to help if they could. One offered multiple times to take us wherever we needed to go. It was like the kind acts were contagious there. Neighbors offering ice, neighbors offering a ride, and the best part was the words of kindness. The genuine excitement of the journey we were on and the true hope that this adventure we were on was a good one.

I have a great support system at home. I was nervous about leaving my parents. They are always there when I need them. Always. It was a bit scary to leave that. But these people came out happy to help and encourage. It was very uplifting to find that strangers are willing to help each other. A Country Charm RV park in Hamilton Missouri

Hamilton, MO

A Country Charm RV park is in such a great location if you have a car or not. We were able to walk a mile into town to eat dinner, and go to the grocery store. It was mostly sidewalks all the way. It took on a look of Mayberry at times. In the evening it looked like there were more kids riding bikes in the roads than there were cars. Hamilton is a cute town and a must visit for all quilters. Hamilton was the home of JC Penny and was where he opened his first warehouse. And being here just made me sad that my kids have never sat around a JC Penny catalog making our their Christmas wish list like I did as a kid.

Hamilton is now the home of the Missouri Star Quilt Company. If you are a quilter you have surely heard of Jenny Doan. She is a magnificent Youtube quilter. She began this company and has breathed life back into this little town. If you take a walk down main street you will find that most of the businesses here are owned by the Missouri Star Quilt company. And those that aren’t are still likely benefiting from it. I had mentioned to one of the ladies that the town needs something for the husbands that come here with their wives and she said they do actually have a great husband space. Genius!!!

At times Hamilton streets are quiet, at times you see a giant John Deere tractor rolling by and other times you see buses parked on side streets having just dropped off their passengers to go and visit the town.

Hamilton was not on our list of stops to make. It was not on our list of places we had to visit. But I am so glad it worked out that our car trouble was in this great little city. I am glad we were able to see the kindness of both the people that live here and of the people that visit this place.

If you are considering a visit through Hamilton, I have to recommend you pull your camper into A Country Charm RV Park and have a great stay. Tell Jerry we said hello!!
