Did we fall down a rabbit hole or did we take a visit to the Memphis Botanic Gardens? We had such a great time at Alice’s Adventures at the Garden.
The kids and I planned a trip to the gardens to go and see Alice’s Adventures. In preparation for our trip we did our research by watching Alice in Wonderland.
We were lucky to be a part of a large homeschool group so the kids had special crafts and we had a tour guide. (Check out more about our homeschool journey here.) We learned about how the display was built. We also found out that the display came from Atlanta. It came on FedEx refrigerated trucks and took a week to assemble using cranes. When you hear how much it weighs you will see why cranes were necessary.
The displays are located in various locations in the gardens. The larger displays are more centrally located so they are easier to spot. The tea party is located in the “My Backyard” portion of the gardens.
The displays are massive, with Alice (falling down the rabbit hole) weighing in at over 23,000 pounds… yes, you read that correctly!!! You can’t touch the actual displays. They are roped off so they can be preserved for more guests to see. But the gardens understands people want to know what they are made of. At each large display they have ‘touch pots’. Planters of the same flowers that went into the display that you can touch and are labeled so you know what went into them.
Hurry to visit Alice’s Adventures at the Gardens
The display is only available in Memphis until October 31, 2022. Its my understanding that after that date the plants will be removed and at some point after Thanksgiving the displays will be more geared toward Christmas lights. I don’t think they can possibly come close to the magnificent display they currently have, but I am excited to see it as well.
You can purchase tickets here with the Memphis Botanic Garden online. Adults $12. Children 2-12 $7. and Children under 2 are free. Prices so good no one will have to lose their heads.
I would love to see this exhibit! That was my absolute favorite book to read when I was a kid, and the exhibit looks amazing.
We loved it!!! If you do make it down here let me know!!
The kids went with a homeschool group so there was a tour guide and fun crafts to go with it. AND they got a book when we left. Of course I loved that they have us a couple of plants just like what they use in the displays.
