Not much can really prepare you for how tall EDDIE is.

Want to see the world’s largest boy? How about sit in a Boeing 757 cockpit or fly a Boeing 777 simulator? Or do you want to climb inside a fire truck?  Even if these things don’t interest you, I can bet your kids would LOVE it. (We love Children’s Museums.)

EdVenture Children’s Museum is located in Columbia, SC.

EDDIE

When you step inside the museum you are greeted with the world’s largest child! Don’t worry, at 40 feet tall you are not going to miss him. He is so big he has his own sprinkler system. AND the best part, this 35,000 pound boy is not just to look at. It is a children’s museum after all. You can climb inside EDDIE and explore his body. You can see his working brain, heart, stomach and intestines after you climb around on his vertebrae. Eddie is twice the size of the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials in Washington DC.

The Engine Cowling for a Boeing 747.

Flight

We can honestly say we went for the planes. Boeing makes their Boeing 787 Dreamliner (which we have flown on a few times) right there in South Carolina. So it only makes sense the planes you get to check out are Boeings.

Cool details for Boeing 747s.

Their Boeing 757 cockpit is not just in the building, it sticks out the side of the building. Which just might have you feeling like you are ready for take off. If you were hoping for even more to experience you are in luck, they also have three Boeing 777 simulators! There is also a Boeing 747 engine cowling you can stand in. The 747 has four of these engines. And is so big the Wright Brothers’ first flight in Kitty Hawk, NC could take place inside a 747!

The cockpit of the plane has a great view since it is actually hanging out the side of the museum.

One of the other areas my kids really liked was the World of Work. Its funny how kids love to pretend to work. There is a kid-sized grocery store, diner, a farm (with a tractor), a fire truck, and even more.

My Backyard

For those little ones 3 years and younger there is a special play area just for them. My kids were too old for this area, but this is one of my favorite things about children’s museums. Little ones having their own area just for them really is a great way to let them play as some of the other areas are really geared toward those three and up.
