On our recent trip to New York City my family and I stayed in the amazing Watson hotel in Hell’s Kitchen.
We flew into Newark airport and had to make our way over to NYC. The kids had never been to NYC, and when asked what he was most excited to see my six year old’s response “I’m excited to swim on that building”.
Finding the Watson was incredibly easy. We were able to take the train to Columbus Circle and walk to few short blocks to our hotel. We were able to carry all of our luggage and our two kids. Traveling to NYC and knowing we would have to carry our luggage on quite the adventure through the various trains was quite the incentive to pack light.
See New York from the water and enjoy up to 46% off cruises!
We booked the Watson hotel for our trip for two reasons; the rooftop pool and the location. We wanted to be close enough that getting to sightseeing would be a quick walk to the train station. The Watson hotel is close to Broadway, and it is just a couple of blocks from the southwest corner of Central Park (hello Central Park Zoo!!).
The lobby of the hotel has the concierge, a desk for purchasing entertainment tickets to local shows, and the check-in desk. We were a little early for check-in, but they were able to accommodate us at no extra charge. I did see that they also have baggage storage (for a fee) in case our room wasn’t ready yet.
The elevators were my only complaint of our entire stay. We were arriving at a busy time and the elevators are small. Every time we used the elevators we were in for a wait.
We had a room with two double beds. The room was a nice size with a view of the street, which provided some entertainment as we watched some folks that looked like they were synchronized parking and then moving for the street sweeper as it came through. (People watching is always entertaining.) Our room also had a mini fridge which certainly comes in handy.
My six year old was most excited about going to the pool, so that was the first thing we did when we arrived. The pool is located on top of the hotel! It was awesome to swim with such an incredible view. Near the pool was a bar that actually had reasonably priced drinks. AND the pool had a life guard which I almost never see at hotel pools anymore. The pool was a huge selling point for us and the kids loved it.
We really enjoyed the location of the Watson. Getting to the train was easy, there were plenty of restaurants around for dinner and breakfast the next morning. We even saw Sarah Jessica Parker out with her dog when we were walking to dinner. (Perks of being near Broadway I guess.)
Our room was awesome at the Watson and we got a good night sleep there. It is rated at a 7.9 on Booking, so make sure you check it out on your next stay in NYC!
